📢 Puppy Release Policy

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. About Our Puppies

1.1 What breeds do you specialize in?
We specialize in Maltipoos, Bichpoos, Poodles, Malshis, Shihpoos, Cavapoos, Cockapoos, and Miniature Red Poodles. Occasionally, we may have other breeds—check our website for the most up-to-date availability.

1.2 Are the puppies vaccinated and dewormed before going home?
Yes. All puppies are dewormed and receive core vaccinations according to veterinary recommendations. You’ll also receive a vaccination record for your veterinarian.

1.3 Are the puppies crate-trained or potty-trained?
We do not fully potty train the puppies before adoption. At this young age, exposing them to floors or shared areas would put them at risk since they aren’t fully vaccinated. Our priority is to keep them healthy, safe, and ready for their new homes.

The good news is that once a puppy is in your home, potty training is much easier because you can dedicate attention to just one puppy in a consistent environment. Crate training is highly recommended, and following a structured feeding schedule (see section 4.1) will also help regulate your puppy’s eating and restroom habits. We’ll be glad to share tips to help you get started successfully.

1.4 Why is the puppy shivering in a video?
Shivering may occur after a bath or due to a change in temperature. It’s not a sign of illness or fear.

1.5 Why hasn’t this puppy sold yet?
Each family has unique preferences—color, size, temperament, or coat. If a puppy hasn’t been adopted, it just means the right match hasn’t come along yet. We prioritize finding the best home, not rushing a sale.

1.6 What is the process to purchase a puppy?
If the puppy is under 2 months, you can place a deposit to reserve them until they’re ready to go home.
If the puppy is 2 months or older and you live nearby, you may schedule an appointment to meet them and complete your purchase.
If you live far away, deposits are optional but strongly recommended to prevent someone else from purchasing the puppy before you.

For complete details on appointments and payments, please visit our Home Page, where you can easily access the appropriate links.

1.7 Why should I buy from ABCPuppy?
Because we value transparency in everything we do. We don’t claim to be perfect or the “best” choice—difficult situations can happen in any dedication—but we always strive to be fair and reasonable in helping our customers through hard times.

Unlike many pet stores or large breeders, we don’t overcharge. Instead, we offer the same (and often better) health guarantees while keeping our prices reasonable.

We also use safe online payment methods such as credit cards and PayPal, which give you buyer protection and security against scams. This way, you can feel confident knowing your payment and adoption process are both safe and transparent.

2. Choosing & Adopting a Puppy

2.1 How do I choose the right puppy for my family?
When choosing a puppy, focus on factors like size, temperament, grooming needs, and energy level rather than whether the puppy is already trained. Training is part of the bonding process and will be much smoother once your puppy is in your home. We’ll guide you with advice so you can pick a puppy that best matches your family’s lifestyle and expectations.

2.2 Can I visit the puppies or schedule a video call before making a decision?
Yes. Visits are by appointment only, and we show one puppy (or two siblings) per visit for safety and health reasons. Video calls are also available if you prefer.

For complete details on appointments, please visit our Home Page, where you can easily access the appropriate links.

2.3 How do I reserve a puppy?
A deposit is required to reserve a puppy. You can pay via our website or direct contact. The remaining balance is due at pickup or 24 hours before delivery.

For complete details on secure payments, please visit our Home Page, where you can easily access the appropriate links.

2.4 What happens on adoption day?
You’ll receive:

  • A small bag of puppy food

  • Vaccination records

  • Health guarantee

  • Deworming information

  • Puppy care guide (For personalized advice, we suggest using ChatGPT or a similar tool to get tips tailored to your lifestyle and schedule.)

Please bring a crate or carrier and basic supplies for the trip home.

3. After Adoption Support

3.1 How can I help my puppy adjust at home?

  • Keep the environment calm

  • Provide a designated sleeping area

  • Maintain a consistent routine

  • Use positive reinforcement

Now is also the time to begin safe socialization. Until their vaccines are complete, avoid public places but slowly expose your puppy to new people, sounds, and environments inside your home or yard. Sticking to a feeding schedule (see 4.1) will also help your puppy settle faster by regulating eating and restroom habits.

3.2 What if my puppy gets sick after adoption?

  • Contact your vet immediately

  • Schedule a wellness check

  • We're available to assist with advice or rehoming options

3.3 Do your puppies come with a health guarantee? Do you recommend pet insurance?
Yes! All puppies come with a health guarantee (see our Health Guarantee Policy). While optional, we also recommend reviewing pet insurance plans—many cover accidents and illnesses that may arise.

For complete details, please visit our Home Page, where you can easily access the appropriate links.

3.4 Do you offer support after adoption?
Absolutely. We’re here to help with training tips, health questions, or general concerns.

3.5 What if I can no longer care for my puppy? Do you have a return policy?
Please contact us. We offer rehoming assistance or can accept the puppy back (note: we do not buy back puppies). A formal return policy is outlined in our Terms and Conditions, available through our Home Page.

4. Feeding & Care

4.1 What do the puppies eat? How often should I feed my puppy?
We’ll provide current diet details at pickup, as we change brands from time to time. Recommended brands include Royal Canin, Purina Pro Plan, Hill’s Science Diet, Blue Buffalo, and Wellness Complete Puppy.

Puppies should be fed three times a day. Offer any food they can eat within 30 minutes, then retrieve leftovers to keep things clean and avoid overfeeding. Apply the same schedule for water—fresh water should be available during meals and removed afterward.

Keeping to this routine not only prevents overeating but also helps establish consistent eating and restroom habits, making house training much easier.

Transitioning Foods: If you decide to change your puppy’s food, do it gradually over 3 days to avoid stomach upset:

  • Day 1: 75% old food + 25% new food

  • Day 2: 50% old food + 50% new food

  • Day 3: 25% old food + 75% new food

  • Day 4: 100% new food

5. Safety, Microchipping & Payment

5.1 What’s the purpose of a microchip?
It provides permanent ID, confirms ownership, and aids in recovery if your pet is lost. Note: it is not GPS-enabled.

5.2 What are PayPal, Square, and JotForm?
These are secure platforms we use for payments and forms. They protect your information and offer dispute resolution.

For complete details on payments, please visit our Home Page, where you can easily access the appropriate links.

5.3 Can I bring a blanket or toy so my puppy gets used to our scent?
We appreciate the thought, but for safety and hygiene reasons we cannot accept outside blankets or toys. Puppies soil their bedding every few hours, and everything we use here is washed with bleach daily—sometimes twice a day. This strict routine ensures a consistently clean and safe environment for every puppy.

To keep things organized and avoid confusion, we follow the same process for all families. This way, every puppy receives the same level of care, cleanliness, and consistency.

5.4 Can I take my puppy to public places before full vaccinations?
For your puppy’s safety, please avoid public places (dog parks, pet stores, sidewalks with heavy dog traffic, apartment dog areas, grooming/training without verified vaccine records, and vet lobby floors) until the final puppy vaccine is completed—typically around 16 weeks (4 months)—plus 7–10 days.

Safe options include being carried in your arms, a stroller/carrier, car rides, and supervised time at home or in a private yard with fully vaccinated, healthy dogs.

6. Breeding & Health Policy

6.1 What is your breeding policy?
At ABCPuppy, we raise many of our own litters directly. From time to time, we may also work with trusted local hobby breeders, family members, and friends within our community, all within a 50-mile radius of Donna, TX. These are small, family-based breeders with just a few females, and they follow the same high standards of health and care.

  • We do not import puppies.

  • We do not deal with brokers.

  • We do not work with large-scale breeders.

  • We do not allow inbreeding.

  • No puppy mills.

  • Breeding dogs are raised indoors or in safe, controlled environments.

  • Most studs are owned by ABCPuppy.

6.2 How are the puppies raised?
Puppies are raised indoors in safe, controlled environments with no outdoor exposure (off-ground policy). They are kept in clean indoor kennels, crates, or enclosures, and there is no public contact until at least 3 vaccinations are completed.

They remain with their mother until about 7–8 weeks of age (depending on size and development), which is essential for proper nutrition, comfort, and early learning. After that, they continue living and interacting with their siblings until adoption. This allows them to practice bite inhibition, sharing, play behavior, and basic social skills in a safe setting.

Socialization is limited to littermates and our family members. Because they are not fully vaccinated, they cannot be exposed to public areas, visitors, or unfamiliar pets. In other words, our puppies aren’t attending group activities or being passed around for entertainment—they stay in a consistent, disease-free environment to protect their health.

This structured approach balances safety with early development, so each puppy leaves here healthy, well-adjusted, and ready for their new family to continue safe socialization.

6.3 What is your focus during early care?
Health and safety. Vaccines are administered every 2–4 weeks, starting at 4–8 weeks old, depending on the puppy.
